After starting off strong against Bethany, then losing a heartbreaker to Vian in the last
minute, beating an amazing Heritage Hall, losing a close one to Blanchard the Bears
were forced to stay at home for full week without practice before going to Ada where
they lost in overtime 7-6 the Bears just couldn’t overcome the constant roadblocks
given to them with the pandemic. Before Tuttle they could not practice on Monday
or Tuesday before the game yet had a lead at halftime. When the regular punter was
unable to play in the second half two bad punts cost them the game. The team ended
up with four wins and six loses including the playoffs. Considering that they had
no spring practice, basically no summer practice, (only weight training), missed basically two weeks of practice scattered through the season and moved up to class 4A they did well enough but know they let four wins get away due to lack of practice time.
The teams we played were able to continue to practice and play, giving them a big advantage. The kids also had to get used to a new head coach in Jeff Horrocks, new
defensive coordinator, James Dickey, and new line coaches, it was quite an experience
for the kids and staff. Luckily coaches Sean Love, Donavan Woods, Johnny Hargis and
Travis Burkhalter provided some stability to the mix. The kids are already working out
on their own for next season determined to turns things around.
